Gujarat Govt. approved 495 new private schools in 2 years

Gandhinagar: 495 new private schools at the primary and secondary levels received approval in two years ending on Dec 31, 2022. During the same period no new grant-in-aid schools were authorized, said the state government in the Gujarat assembly.

Of the 495 approved private schools, 359 were primary and 136 were secondary. The maximum number of private schools were authorized in Rajkot (40 primary and 11 secondary), followed by Surat (35 and 14), Jamnagar (28 and six), Banaskantha (26 and eight), and Mehsana (22 primary and nine).

In response to a question posed by Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia about grants and expenditures on the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA), the government provided information indicating that for the 21-month period ending on December 31, 2022, they had received only 68% of the grants requested under the SSA.

From April 1, 2021, to December 21, 2022, the state government had asked for Rs. 2,437.64 crore under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) but had only received Rs. 1,653.4 crore from the Centre, resulting in a demand-to-grant ratio of approximately 68%.

During the financial year 2021-22, the government had requested Rs. 1,180.62 crore and received Rs. 878.1 crore. DeshGujarat
