SMC completes tagging of 42,000 cattle with chips

Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has completed tagging of 42 thousand cattle in the city.
SMC has attached RFID chips to the cattle to combat the stray cattle nuisance. It helps to give information on the previous capture of the same cattle by SMC team and its ownership details when a stray cattle is captured. A stray cattle will be seized permanently after it is captured 3 times.
SMC applies chips at a free cost. The deadline for attaching chips at free cost is 31st March. SMC will charge Rs 250 per chip from the cattle owners for applying chips after 1st April. The RFID chips are already applied on 42 thousand out of around 60 thousand cattle in the city. Lasanka area of the city has the highest number of cattle without chips, which is 6 thousand.
