Boat seized in Dolphin poaching case had satellite phone; Accused on two days remand

Porbandar: The police found a satellite phone on the boat seized in the dolphin hunting case in Porbandar.

In a joint operation with the Indian Coast guard, the forest department on Thursday arrested ten fishermen with 22 dead dolphins in a boat 12 nautical miles off Porbandar Coast. The court approved a 2-day remand of the accused found on the ship.

The investigation was led by the Special Operation Group (SOG). They discovered that one of the accused, Anthony Barla, was the owner of the boat and hails from Tamilnadu. The other suspects were identified as Mayadhar Manadhar Raut (37) from Orissa, Giltush Ebez Pushpakadi (62) from Kerala, Nihal Samsudin Kunasheri (26), Sansuman Jaylal Basumatre (31, from Assam), Selvan Surlesh (45) from Tamilnadu, Ranjit Govind Boro (28) from Assam, and Rajkumar Tanisha Raj (52) from Tamil Nadu.

The boat’s name is Dayana’s – 2 and it had left Kochi on 26 February. DeshGujarat
