HPCL to set up Rs. 1000 crore LPG cavern in Vadodara

Vadodara: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation ltd. (HPCL) plans to construct a new LPG cavern with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes in Vadodara which would be India’s third underground LPG storage facility.

The project is expected to cost up to Rs 1,000 crore. Currently, HPCL operates an LPG cavern in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and is constructing another in Mangalore, Karnataka.

The LPG cavern in Gujarat is expected to provide support to the Kandla to Gorakhpur LPG pipeline project, a joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd, and HPCL, with a 50:25:25 partnership ratio. This pipeline will enable the cost-effective and eco-friendly transport of LPG from the western coast to various demand centres, replacing the existing road and rail transport modes, and address the LPG shortage by transporting LPG via pipeline from the west coast to bottling plants in these three states.
