Slow progress of Ahmedabad – Rajkot highway 6-lane project: Congress, BJP MLAs express concern

Gandhinagar: Congress legislator Dr. CJ Chavda on Thursday raised the issue of the extremely slow pace of work of the Ahmedabad – Rajkot highway six-lane project in the State assembly. Chavda’s observation was supported by Rajkot BJP legislator Dr. Darshita Shah who also said that whatever Chavda had observed was true and the works are going on at an extremely slow pace.

Chavda reminded the government of its announcement that the Rajkot – Ahmedabad highway works will be completed by the year 2020. Chavda said even after two years, about 30 percent work is yet to be completed. Chavda said it may take 3-4 years more, looking at the current speed of execution.

Speaking on this highway, BJP MLA from Rajkot, Uday Kangad demanded strict actions against the hotels, restaurants, and petrol pumps on Rajkot – Ahmedabad highway that break the road divider and create illegal passages that cause accidents and make the highway risky.

It’s worth mentioning here that the six-laning work of the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway has been delayed by three years. The delay has caused hardships for commuters, there is no clear timeline for when the work will be completed. Numerous traffic diversions and road blockages on the highway have increased hardship for commuters. The project is going on for the past five years. Contractors engaged in the project are not responding to notices issued by the national highways division of the roads and buildings department of the state government.
