Gandhinagar: As many as 1700 cops of Gujarat Police participated in search operations in 17 jails of the State. The raids were carried out in a surprising manner and the cops were wearing body-worn cameras.
The updates regarding this operation are being tracked more by the people in Uttar Pradesh (UP) than in Gujarat because UP mafia Atiq Ahmed is lodged in Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad and recently there were reports that he was freely using mobile phone in Sabarmati jail and execute his motives in UP.
The Chief Minister monitored the operation through the CM Dashboard where live streaming of searches was available on screens. The Minister of State for Home monitored the searches at Trinetra – Command & Control Centre along with the senior police official including the DGP and head of the Intelligence wing. It is learnt that several mobile phones and other objectionable items are recovered from jails during this drive.
MoS Home Harsh Sanghavi had recently paid a surprise visit to Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad and spent two hours there. It is understood that these actions are following the revelation in some news reports that Uttar Pradesh mafia Atiq Ahmed was using a mobile phone and enjoying facilities at Sabarmati jail in Gujarat.
