Rajkot: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday seized Rs 99 lakh in cash and 990 grams of silver from the residence of Jawri Mal Bishnoi, a Joint Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), who committed suicide in Rajkot after being arrested by the CBI in connection with a Rs 5.5 lakh bribery case.

According to CBI officers, “When the CBI team arrived at Bishnoi’s house late on Friday evening, his wife threw two bags of cash from a balcony. One bag was lifted by their relative who was waiting downstairs, but another fell into the neighbour’s premises and the latter handed it over to the CBI”. The two bags contained cash to the tune of Rs 99 lakh, the officer added.

Bishnoi is accused of demanding Rs 9 lakh in exchange for issuing a no-objection certificate to an exporter and had received six files containing documents related to the export of food cans, which were required to release the exporter’s bank guarantee of Rs 50 lakh. DeshGujarat
