Surat: 10 SMC Councillors leave AAP, and join BJP

Surat: Six more councillors of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) from the Aam Aadmi Party have joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today evening. They have declared their resignations from AAP.

Earlier four AAP councillors had joined BJP. They today formally left AAP and joined BJP. With today’s induction, a total of 10 AAP councillors have joined BJP. The joining took place at the Surat BJP office.

Four councillors who had earlier distanced from AAP to join BJP are Bhavnaben Solanki, Rutaben Kheni, Jyotikaben Lathiya and Vipulbhai Movaliya. They today formally joined BJP.

Six councillors who left AAP today and joined BJP are Ghanshyam Makwana, Dharmendra Vavaliya, Kiran Khokhani, Ashok Dhami, Niraliben Patel and Swati Kyada.

In the year 2021 civic polls, AAP had for the first time won 27 seats in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). Out of them today 17 are left with AAP while 10 have joined BJP. There are total 120 seats in SMC. BJP had won 93 of them while AAP had won 27  in the regular election in 2021. Congress hadn’t won any of the seats. With joining of 10 AAP councillors, BJP’s strength has increased to 103.
