Post, perks and office of leader of opposition discontinued by RMC in Rajkot
April 26, 2023
Rajkot: Main opposition Congress party in Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) is left with just two corporators. The ruling party has decided to scrap the post of the leader of the opposition, looking at the ridiculously low strength.
Out of a total of 72 seats across 18 wards, Congress could win only 4 seats in Rajkot in the year 2021 civic elections. Out of them, 2 switched over to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) later, leaving the Congress party with just 2 corporators in a 72-strong house.
In this scenario, the ruling dispensation has concluded that it is no more required to continue the post of the leader of the opposition, a separate office, the facility of car, and other perks. The leader of the opposition was getting Rs. 5 lakh extra grant for civic works. The ruling party has decided that such extra grant allocation will also be discontinued.
Recently, the post of the leader of the opposition and related facilities were also scrapped in Junagadh Municipal Corporation where out of total 60 corporators, Congress has only 3 corporators.DeshGujarat
