3 new metro stations in Ahmedabad likely to open later this year
April 28, 2023
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) is working with shuttle speed to complete the construction of three new metro stations – Kankaria, Thaltej Gam, and Sabarmati and make them operational by December 2023.
In the wake of the year-end festive period and the upcoming 2024 general elections the GMRC is trying to speed up work to ensure they become operational by that time, said the sources.
Two of these stations, Kankaria and Sabarmati, are also crucial from a traffic point of view. Kankaria is a tourist spot and Sabarmati is connected to the Sabarmati Railway station and other transport services.
The ridership in Ahmedabad has been increasing and is expected to get a further boost once these three stations become operational.
The GMRC is also focusing on the second phase of the metro project, which aims to connect GIFT City to the outskirts of Gandhinagar. The corporation is also considering developing another metro station within the GIFT premises. The GMRC aims to complete the metro trial run at GIFT City’s first metro station by 2024. DeshGujarat
