Pavagadh: One woman was killed and 8 others including 3 women and 3 children were injured after a heavy stone-made top portion of a structure fell on them at the base of Pavagadh Hill.

Panchmahal collector Ashish Kumar told the media that the structure collapsed and fell on nine devotees, killing one woman. The other eight were taken to a hospital in Halol town, then moved to Vadodara for better treatment.

The structure, a portion of which collapsed is known as Vishram Kutir (rest place). The incident took place near the coconut-breaking machine in Machi. It is learnt as per the initial reports that the stone portion collapsed after it was hit by a sudden strike of lightning.

The deceased woman is identified as Gangaben Devipujak (40) by hospital authorities. Engineers and contractors have been asked to visit the site, and an inquiry has been ordered by the collector to investigate the cause of the tragedy. DeshGujarat
