Dr Manoj Soni takes oath as new UPSC chairman

New Delhi: Former Vice-chancellor of M.S. University, Manoj Soni, an educationist, has officially assumed the role of Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) after taking the oath of office on Tuesday .

The oath ceremony was conducted by Smita Nagaraj, a senior member of the Commission. Soni, who had been serving as a member of the Commission since June 28, 2017, was appointed to act as the Chairman of the UPSC from April 5, 2022, under Article 316 (A) of the Indian Constitution.

Before joining the UPSC, Soni pursued his studies in Political Science, specializing in International Relations Studies. He obtained a Ph.D. in “Post-Cold War International Systemic Transition and Indo-US Relations” from Sardar Patel University. He has also served as Vice-Chancellor for three terms, one at the M.S. University of Baroda and two at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University in Gujarat. Notably, Soni holds the distinction of being the youngest Vice-Chancellor in independent India.
