Surat police nab alleged mastermind in a GST tax credit scam involving 21 bogus firms

Surat: The Economic Offence Cell has nabbed one Adil Hasanbhai Bajuber, the alleged mastermind of a tax credit scam involving crores of rupees. Adil was nabbed at Mumbai Airport while attempting to flee to Dubai.

According to a complaint filed with the Crime Branch, Babubhai Patel owns office numbers 301 to 303 in the Mangalam Complex building in Surat. Twenty-one rental agreements with his forged signatures were created in 2022 using the name of his offices. Fake billing and financial transactions were carried out for Goods and Services Tax (GST) using the registration of 21 dummy firms, which were established using fake documents and office addresses, along with counterfeit light bills. These fraudulent activities allowed them to receive tax credits from the government.

Adil Hasanbhai Bajuber, the alleged mastermind of the scam, was wanted in connection with the case. He was detained at Mumbai Airport due to a lookout circular issued by the authorities. The Eeo-Cell apprehended him at the airport and brought him back to Surat.

During interrogation, Adil confessed to creating a fake Aadhar card for Babubhai using the DSE application. With the assistance of his accomplices, Nilesh Modi and Paresh Patel, he forged rental agreements and established shell firms.
