Betalis Leuva Patidar community frames rules for social occasions, customs

Mehsana: Betalis Leuva Patidar community women, in a meeting held at Shankhalpur, have decided to stop the costly trends emerging in family events for the purpose of showing off, such as pre-wedding photoshoots, haldi ceremonies, receptions, baby showers, and more.

On May 28th, a total of 3000 females from the Betalis Leuva Patidar community will pledge their commitment in Patan. Women from 53 villages in North Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Mumbai, Ankleshwar, Kutch, Rajkot, and Mumbai will join this initiative. For the first time in 65 years, they will establish a social code for the community with necessary modifications.

Anitaben Patel, the leader of the Betalis Leuva Patidar female organization, stated that while these trends may not affect wealthy families, middle-class families are compelled to spend money unwillingly for social status. Therefore, they have decided to put an end to such trends.

The female organization will implement the following modifications in 2023:

  1. 1. Cease spending on pre-wedding photoshoots, haldi ceremonies, baby showers, and DJ parties.
  2. 2. Eliminate the practice of giving or receiving gift envelopes during events like receptions, hawans, engagements, and baby showers.
  3. 3. Stop the tradition of giving gold jewelry and gift envelopes during death rituals.
  4. 4. Refrain from exchanging money for sweets distributed for childbirth.
  5. 5. Avoid extravagant expenses on ‘Mamera’ during marriages.
  6. 6. Discontinue the tradition of giving money on Holi.
  7. 7. End the practice of giving money envelopes for Dhotia during death rituals.
