Narmada: A Sessions Court in Rajpipla here issued a ruling on Wednesday, sentencing Aam Aadmi Party MLA Chaitar Vasava and nine others to six months in jail in connection with a case involving violence during a panchayat election.
However, Judge N. R. Joshi of the Rajpipla court ordered their release on probation under the Probation of Offenders Act, provided they each submitted a bail bond of Rs 20,000 within seven days.
The court found the accused guilty under Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. Along with the imprisonment, a fine of Rs 10,000 was imposed on each of the accused. The court observed that, as the accused did not have any past criminal history, they should be released on probation.
Chaitar Vasava, elected from the reserved constituency of Dediapada in Narmada district during the December 2022 elections, is among Gujarat’s five AAP MLAs. DeshGujarat
