Gujarat ranks number one in oilseeds and fibres production

Gandhinagar: Gujarat has secured the top position in terms of the value of oilseed and fibre production, maintaining this position for two consecutive years.

As per a recent report from the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the Gross value of output (GVO) for Oilseed in Gujarat amounted to ₹24,900 crores, accounting for 20% of the total output. Furthermore, the GVO for Fibres in the state reached ₹19,900 thousand crores, contributing to 25.4% of the nationwide GVO. Maharashtra shared the top spot with Gujarat in terms of fibre production.

The report also reveals that Gujarat ranks fifth in terms of the value of output from fruits and vegetables and sixth in sugar production. However, for other agricultural produce, Gujarat does not feature among the top five performing states in the country, as mentioned in the report. MoSPI recently released a report titled “Statewise and Itemwise Value of Output from Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing,” providing insights into the value of output from various items between 2011-12 and 2020-21.
