Collector meets sarpanchs over proposal of municipal corporation status to Morbi

Morbi: The district colletor of Morbi held a meeting with sarpanches of the nearby villages to discuss the possibility of municipal corporation status in Morbi. The town at present has a municipality to manage the civic affairs. However, with a similar population, the State capital Gandhinagar has Municipal Corporation.

The meeting, led by the district collector, aimed to discuss the linking of the surrounding villages to Morbi town and elevate the district capital’s status to a municipal corporation. The collector stated that the district’s elected representatives had made an appeal to grant municipal corporation status to Morbi and establish the Morbi Urban Development Authority (MUDA) during Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s recent visit to the city. The opinions of the sarpanches were sought regarding the inclusion of villages under the proposed municipal corporation and the Morbi Urban Development Authority in the future.

Tankara’s MLA in Morbi emphasized the need for a ring road to address the traffic issues in Morbi and ensure the convenience of future generations. The Morbi Wankaner twin city project, encompassing 38 villages of Morbi and Wankaner, was implemented in 2012. DeshGujarat
