Rickshaw driver looting poor passengers held after video goes viral

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad East Traffic Police have nabbed one Akbar Khalifa Hussain, a rickshaw driver after a video went viral on social media showcasing that a he was extorting money from passengers.

A video went viral on social media showing a rickshaw driver picking up a passenger from Kalupur railway station and demanding money. Subsequently, the rickshaw driver dropped the passenger on the road and forcefully took the money. The incident caught the attention of the police, who initiated an investigation. After apprehending the rickshaw driver, the police seized the rickshaw and initiated legal proceedings against him.

The authorities have informed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to cancel the rickshaw driver’s licence and permit. Following the viral video, the police traced the rickshaw driver based on the rickshaw’s number. The rickshaw puller, named Akbar Khalifa Hussain, resides in Gomtipur.

Efforts are underway to locate the passenger from whom the money was extorted. Safin Hasan, Traffic East DCP, stated that the rickshaw driver was forcefully extorting money from passengers, as shown in the video. The rickshaw driver has been charged under the Motor Vehicles Act. The police are currently searching for the passenger.
