Alleged harassment of Hindu minor girls sparks clash between communities in Umreth

Anand: A clash erupted between the Hindu and Muslim communities in Umreth taluka of Anand on Sunday night after two minor Hindu females were allegedly harassed by youths from the Muslim community.

The incident occurred two days ago when two Hindu minor girls were harassed by Muslim youths. The locals gathered and threatened the girls, prompting the perpetrators to flee. The families of the minors filed a complaint at the Umreth police station, leading to the subsequent arrest of the eight Muslim youths involved.

According to reports, the situation has become more tense and concerning after CCTV footage of the clash between Hindu and Muslim youths surfaced. It is alleged that a Muslim mob gathered at the Chandramuleshwar Mahadev temple area with swords and sticks, creating an atmosphere of fear. Later, Hindu youths also rushed to the scene with sticks, further escalating the situation.

Anger has spread within the Hindu community after the police registered a complaint against eight Hindu youths involved in the clash. The Hindu community held a late-night meeting and decided to submit a petition to the Mamlatdar this afternoon, addressing all the issues. A bandh was also observed by the traders today in the town.
