Gujarat HC orders expert evaluation of century-old bridges in Gondal

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has ordered the state government to seek expert opinions on the condition of two century-old bridges in the Gondal town of Rajkot, following a public interest litigation (PIL) calling for their repair to prevent accidents like the Morbi bridge collapse.

The bridges, built by King Bhagvatsinhji Maharaj, are in a dilapidated state and witness traffic congestion during monsoons and peak hours. The court has directed the government to appoint experts to physically examine the bridges and submit a report by June 28. Notices have been issued to the Gondal municipality and other concerned parties. Despite acknowledging the urgent attention required for the bridges, authorities have not taken any steps towards their repair. DeshGujarat
