Archaeological museum with augmented & virtual reality to come up in Vadnagar

Vadnagar: A state-of-the-art archaeological museum incorporating immersive technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality is being constructed in Vadnagar, with a project cost of Rs 212.1 crore.

The museum will be housed in a three-story building near an archaeological site and will showcase the town’s development over 2,500 years through the lens of seven cultural periods. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a walkway through the excavated site.

The project is being funded by the Union Ministry of Culture, with the state government overseeing its execution. The museum will feature over 40,000 artefacts acquired during excavations, and immersive technologies such as AR/VR, 3D displays, replicas, and dioramas will enhance the visitor experience. Various research projects are also underway to explore the art, architecture, and population history of Vadnagar.

Vadnagar, located approximately 100 kilometres from Ahmedabad, is a historic town with a population of around 28,000. In December 2022, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced that Vadnagar town and the iconic Sun Temple at Modhera in Gujarat were added to the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
