June 07, 2023
Surat: BAPS (Bochasanvasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha), in a letter addressed to the chairman of Bardoli municipality, agreed to give Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s name to the new stadium at Talavdi ground. The stadium, constructed by Bardoli municipality, will now be named as Sardar Patel Stadium.
Bardoli municipality is developing the stadium, which includes a pavilion ground and an indoor stadium, at Talavdi ground in Bardoli. The construction work of the stadium is almost over.
It’s worth noting that on 4 September 2016, a function to condole the passing away of Pramukh Swami was organized at BAPS Swaminarayan mandir in which the then minister Ganpatbhai Vasava had made an announcement that the proposed stadium in Bardoli shall be named as Pramukh Swami Maharaj stadium. In reference to this, the local municipality had on 9 September 2016 passed a resolution in the general board for naming the under-construction stadium as Pramukh Swami Maharaj Stadium. Later on 1st June 2023, the BJP office bearers and party organization leaders in verbal representation stated that the ground was previously known as Sardar Stadium and therefore the new stadium there should be named after Sardar Patel. Before the controversy get any more momentum, BAPS in a letter conveyed to the Municipality that they agreed for naming the stadium after Sardar Patel.
Akshar Purushottam Swami Narayan Mandir Sankri Kothariswami Sadhupurndarshandasji, representing BAPS, sent a letter to the municipality chairman and chief officer expressing BAPS’s agreement with the name of Sardar Patel. DeshGujarat
