Pictures of Shastri bridge of Ahmedabad go viral online; tender process for its rehabilitation by NHAI underway
June 07, 2023
Sabarmati: A photograph of a Shastri bridge over river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad has gone viral on social media. The bridge visibly needs repair of joints, however, experts believe there’s no structural problem involved or no immediate danger of collapse. The experts say it’s wedge construction and the bridge is designed in such a way, however, there’s no doubt that it needs rehabilitation.
The commuters passing over this bridge often complain of experiencing a shaking effect. The bridge connects the Vishala area of Vasna in Western Ahmedabad to the industrial areas of Narol and Pirana in Eastern Ahmedabad.
When checked with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), it has been learnt that the tender process for rehabilitation of this around forty-year-old bridge is underway and in advanced stages. The tender value for this work is Rs. 5.51 crore. The bridge has been in the news for the last two years for its poor condition. Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has time and again approached NHAI for its repair. DeshGujarat
