Senior Congress leader Govabhai Rabari likely to join BJP

Deesa: Senior congress leader and former legislator Govabhai Rabari from Deesa in Banaskantha district of North Gujarat is likely to join ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after resigning from Congress party.

Govabhai Rabari, from Kuchadva village in Deesa, has been politically active for last 35 years. He purportedly met state BJP chief CR Patil on Tuesday. Rabari served as MLA of Dhanera for one term and MLA of Deesa for two terms. He contested the elections on congress mandate from Deesa, Diyodar and Dhanera for seven times. His son Sanjay Rabari also contested the election in 2022 from Deesa assembly seat after getting congress ticket.

Govabhai Rabari has who has served on various posts from Sarpanch to district panchayat president is also active in cooperative sector. He has been chairman of Deesa marketing yard for fifteen years. Recently he contested again for the post after ten years gap and he won. Rabari when visited his Deesa based office recently said that he would wear saffron scarf in a gathering in Deesa only and the decision to change the party is not his own but by his community and his supporters.

Two BJP leaders namely Tharad MLA and president Shankar Chaudhary and Siddhpur MLA Balvantsinh Rajput purportedly played an active role for bringing Rabari father-son to BJP. DeshGujarat
