Gandhinagar: The very severe cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” over the Arabian Sea moved slowly north-northeastwards at a speed of 6 kmph during the past 6 hours. It was centered at 0830 hours IST on today, the 9th of June 2023, over the same region near latitude 14.8°N and longitude 66.4°E, approximately 830 km south-southwest of Porbandar. It is expected to gradually intensify further over the next 36 hours and then move nearly north-northeastwards over the next 48 hours and north-northwestwards over the following 3 days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning to fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing into the deep sea due to this weather phenomenon till June 15th. The Meteorological Center has also predicted rainfall in parts of Gujarat over a span of 5 days, from June 9th to 13th.

Weather Warning for the next 5 days

On June 9th, “Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph accompanied with light rain to moderate very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Navsari, Valsad and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Jamnagar, Porbandar, Gir Somnath in Diu.”

On June 10th, “Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph accompanied with light rain to moderate very likely at isolated places in the districts of in all the districts of South Gujarat region and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Porbandar Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and in Diu.”

On June 11th, “Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph accompanied with light rain to moderate very likely at isolated places in the districts of in all the districts of South Gujarat region and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; in the districts of Saurashtra namely Porbandar Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and in Diu.”

On June 13th, “Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30- 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph accompanied with light rain to moderate very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; in all the districts of Saurashtra- Kutch & in Diu”

Fishermen Warning

 Total suspension of fishing operations over

o  eastcentral and adjoining westcentral Arabian Sea till 13th June.

o north and adjoining central Arabian Sea during 12th -14th June

 Fishermen are advised not to venture into:

o Central Arabian Sea till 13th June.

o Adjoining areas of north Arabian Sea during 12th -15th June.

o Along & off Saurashtra & Kutch coasts during 10th to 15th June.
