Hindu students asked to wear skull caps, offer Namaz in Mundra school; DEO orders probe

Bhuj: District Education Officer (DEO) has ordered a probe into an incident in which Hindu students in Pearl School in Mundra in the Kutch district of Gujarat were asked to perform Namaz.
In the latest development, the Principal of the school Priti Vasvani was suspended after an initial inquiry conducted by a specialized team appointed by the District Education Officer. The DEO stated that they will take further action once they receive the detailed investigation report.
‘We have received a video of the incident and formed a team which has been moved to Mundra for probe into the incident. We take this very seriously and if found guilty the school will face actions up to cancellation of the approval. Our team members will meet the parents, children, and school management and inquire into the incident, ‘ said Sanjay Parmar, District Education Officer.

A video, fast circulating on social media shows that the Hindu students of Pearl School were asked to wear skull caps and offer Namaz to mark Bakra Eid. When contacted by the media, the school principal Priti Vaghwani claimed that Namaz session held in the school on June 28 was part of the activity. She also tendered an apology if the sentiments of anyone were hurt. However, the local legislator Aniruddh Dave questioned such kind of activity. He said the activity could be swimming, horse riding, or musical performance, but not Namaz. Dave said he spoke to DEO for action. Dave said, there was a holiday in the school yesterday but still the students were called and asked to offer Namaz by dressing as Muslims.
According to the school website, Mr. Abu Saban Mohammed Najib Abbasi is the Chairperson of the school management and President of the Trust that runs this school.
Another school in North Gujarat also was in the news yesterday for asking the Hindu children to mark Bakra Eid. Kids Kingdom School located on Radhanpur Road in Mahesana faced protests by locals, parents, and Hindu organizations over the Bakra Eid celebration order to children studying in the school.
