Congress not to field candidates in 3-seat Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: Main opposition Congress party will not field its candidate in the upcoming 3-seat Rajya Sabha election.
Dr. Manish Doshi, Spokesperson of Gujarat Congress formally conveyed this to media. He said that the Congress party has no numbers to win any of the three seats and the party doesn’t believe in the politics of manipulative tactics. Congress has 17 legislators in the State assembly while requiring number of legislators to make even one Rajya Sabha candidate getting elected is 46.
With this development, polling will not take place for the 3-seat Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat. As per the program declared by the Election Commission, the last date for filing nominations is 13th July. The names of the BJP nominees shall be clear by then. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 17. The BJP candidates will be declared victorious unopposed. Polling was going to take place on July 24 if required.
The names of BJP nominees will be decided by the party’s central election committee. Three seats that are going to be vacant are presently occupied by BJP MPs S. Jaishankar, Dinesh Anawadia, and Jugal Lokhandwala. DeshGujarat
