Gujarat ATS nabs CPWD peon in Kutch for passing on sensitive information to Pakistani agent

Kutch: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has nabbed a contractual employee working with CPWD (Central Public Works Department), office located in India’s Border Security Force (BSF) campus for spying for Pakistan.

The ATS has apprehended an individual named Nilesh Baliya. According to the preliminary investigation, Nilesh initially fell victim to a honeytrap and was subsequently utilized to collect and transmit classified information to Pakistan. He established contact with a fabricated online profile under the name Aditi, which was operated by a Pakistani handler.

According to the note shared by ATS –  Gujarat ATS police inspector DB Basiya had received secret information that Nilesh Valjibhai Baliya who is employed on contract as peon in CPWD office located at BSF headquarters campus in Bhuj, passes on the secret and sensitive details of BSF to a Pakistan-based agent via Whatsapp.

Based on this information, Basiya approached DIG ATS and held Nilesh Baliya after a technical workout. Baliya in questioning said that he works as a peon in the Electrical department of CPWD in BSF battalion – 59, headquartered in Bhuj for the last five years. In January – 2023, he came into contact with one “Aditi Tiwari” via Whatsapp. After an online friendship with her, Nilesh informed her that he works as a computer operator in the BSF office. The Pakistani woman then asked Nilesh to send secret and sensitive information pertaining to India’s border security and BSF to her via Whatsapp and offered a monetary reward if the papers sent by him are found worthy. Nilesh accepted this offer and from January 2023 to 28 June 2023, he sent secret and sensitive information pertaining to ongoing constructions and new constructions under BSF. The Pakistani agent in exchange for this sent Rs. 28,800 to Nilesh’s bank account in various installments using PayTM.

ATS in its note further said that after questioning, suspect Nilesh Baliya’s phone was put under technical analysis which provided evidence of Whatsapp chat and calls with a Pakistani woman agent. The money received in exchange for the information is traced in the bank account’s statement.

Nilesh is booked under IPC sections 121C and 123C along with 120B. An offense has been registered against him in Gujarat ATS police station.
